About Gene Kelly
One W-2 job. Ever.
Everything else, he built himself.
He started with $100 in the company checkbook and turned it into a million-dollar product. He built a distance-education trade skills company from scratch and sold over $100M in training courses.
He could have built more. He chose a vineyard instead.
Gene spent 20 years searching for the right property. He found it in Napa Valley's Oak Knoll district and bought it during the 2008 crash for half of what the previous owner paid. Today, Kelly Family Vineyards produces $500-a-bottle Cabernet Sauvignon available only to members.
When California imposed crushing regulations on his trade schools, Gene sent a one-line letter: "We will stop accepting California students." They rolled back the requirement.
